What speed and reverb settings give the classic "slowed + reverb" sound?
The widely used starting point is 0.80–0.85× speed with a medium room or hall reverb at roughly 25–35% mix. Below about 0.75× the vocals start to sound muddy and consonants smear; above 0.90× the effect is barely audible. Slowing the playback rate here also lowers the pitch, which is exactly what gives the style its dreamy character — if you want slower tempo without a deeper voice, use the Tempo Changer instead.
Why does my slowed + reverb export sound quieter than the original?
Reverb spreads the same energy across a longer time window, so the average level drops even though the peak may not. Run the result through the Audio Normalizer afterwards to bring the peak back to −1 dB. Do it in that order: normalising first and then adding reverb can push the reverb tail into clipping.
Can I upload the result to Spotify or YouTube?
Technically yes — the export is a standard WAV. Legally, a slowed + reverb edit is a derivative work of the original recording, so distributing it needs permission from the rights holders. Many such uploads are removed or monetised by the original label through automated content matching. Keep edits private, or work from music you own or that is explicitly licensed for remixing.
