Frequently asked questions
How much bass boost can I add before the audio distorts?
It depends entirely on the source. A track already mastered loud has almost no headroom, so even +3 dB can clip; a quiet acoustic recording may take +9 dB cleanly. This tool applies clip protection, but protection means the peaks get limited, and heavy limiting flattens the punch you were trying to add. If you hear the low end going soft rather than louder, reduce the gain instead of pushing further.
Which frequency does the boost actually affect?
It uses a low-shelf filter, which lifts everything below its corner frequency rather than a single narrow band. That means kick drum, bass guitar and sub-bass rise together, which sounds natural. It also means low-frequency rumble, mic handling noise and air-conditioning hum get boosted too — if your recording has those, clean it with the Noise Reducer first.
Will boosting bass damage my speakers or headphones?
Small boosts are harmless, but sustained large ones are the most common way people blow small drivers. Low frequencies demand far more excursion and power than mids, and phone speakers or cheap earbuds simply cannot move that much air — they either distort or overheat the voice coil. If a boosted file sounds like it is rattling rather than deepening, the driver is at its mechanical limit; turn it down.
