Frequently asked questions
Why does 8D audio only work with headphones?
The effect is created by continuously moving the sound between the left and right channels. Headphones keep those channels fully separate at each ear, so your brain reads the movement as a source orbiting your head. Loudspeakers let both channels reach both ears, which collapses the illusion into a plain volume wobble. There is no way around this — it is a property of how the effect works, not a limitation of the tool.
What rotation speed sounds best?
Between 0.1 Hz and 0.25 Hz — one full orbit every 4 to 10 seconds. Faster than about 0.5 Hz stops sounding like motion and starts sounding like tremolo, which most listeners find fatiguing within a minute. Slow, wide orbits work best on tracks with sustained pads or vocals; dense, percussive mixes hide the effect.
Is 8D audio the same as surround sound or spatial audio?
No. True surround and spatial formats carry multiple discrete channels or head-tracking metadata. 8D audio is a two-channel stereo file with an automated pan — nothing about the file format changes, and it plays anywhere stereo plays. That is why it needs no special hardware or codec, and also why it cannot place sound above or behind you the way real spatial audio can.
Are my audio files uploaded?
Never. Your file is decoded and processed with the Web Audio API directly in your browser. It never touches a server — processing even works offline.
What formats can I upload and download?
Upload anything your browser can play: MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A/AAC and FLAC in most browsers. The processed result downloads as a high-quality WAV file.
Is it really free? Any length limit?
