Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. MetaWipe runs 100% in your browser using JavaScript. Your photos and PDFs are read, inspected and cleaned entirely on your device — they never touch a network. You can even use the tool offline once the page has loaded.
Does removing metadata reduce image quality?
No. MetaWipe never re-encodes your pixels. For JPEG it removes only the metadata segments (EXIF, XMP, IPTC, comments) while copying the compressed image data byte-for-byte. PNG and WebP are rewritten chunk-by-chunk keeping all image data intact. The result is pixel-identical to the original.
What metadata is removed from PDFs?
The document information dictionary (Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator, Producer, CreationDate, ModDate) and the embedded XMP metadata stream. Page content, fonts, images and layout are untouched.
Why should I remove EXIF data before sharing photos?
Photos taken with phones typically embed the exact GPS coordinates of where they were taken, plus your device model and timestamps. Sharing them online can reveal your home address or daily routine. Wiping metadata before uploading protects your privacy.
