Frequently asked questions
Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?
Never. GhostPDF runs 100% in your browser using WebAssembly-grade JavaScript libraries. Files are read, processed and saved entirely on your device — they never touch a network. It even works offline once the page is loaded.
Is the redaction permanent or just a black box overlay?
Permanent. Unlike tools that draw a rectangle on top of the text (which can be removed), GhostPDF re-renders every page as an image with the redacted regions destroyed. The original content no longer exists in the output file.
Is there a file size or usage limit?
No accounts, no quotas, no watermarks-unless-you-pay. The only limit is your device's memory, since all processing happens locally. Even large PDFs work fine on a typical laptop or phone.
Can you recover my password if I forget it?
No — and that's the point. Password protection is applied on your device and we never see the file or the password. Store it somewhere safe; a protected PDF without its password cannot be recovered.
